In the past decade alone, India has lost 1.5 million people to preventable road accidents, and another 5.3 million have been left disabled for life. India has the highest number of road accident-related deaths, with one accident occurring every minute and one death every three minutes. While India has only 1% of the world’s vehicles, it accounts for over 10% of global road accident fatalities – the highest in the world.
According to the Global Status Report on Road Safety 2018 by the World Health Organization (WHO), India ranks first among 199 countries in the number of road accident deaths, followed by China and the United States. Nearly 11% of global accident-related deaths occur in India.
Challenges/Needs
Road safety is an issue that is largely overlooked and does not receive the attention it deserves, despite being one of the significant opportunities to save lives.
According to the WHO, if bystanders come forward to help, over 140,000 and up to 70,000 lives can be saved annually. In the absence of established emergency medical services, bystanders play a crucial role in saving lives. They can call for help, provide first aid, and even transport the injured to the nearest hospital if an ambulance does not arrive in time. Over the past decade, more than 1.3 million people have died in road accidents in India. According to the Law Commission of India, 50% of these victims could have survived if they had received timely care. The role of bystanders in providing emergency care to victims is essential. However, in India, fear of legal consequences and procedural complications discourages bystanders from assisting the injured.
Non-profit organizations worldwide have been thriving for years to bring about transformative change. They not only help in making society better but also significantly contribute to raising public awareness about the various challenges the country faces. Life Saving Organization is supported by its enthusiastic volunteers and loyal donors who stand by its mission to improve the lives of accidental victims. Across the nation, we provide medical assistance, financial support, and legal aid to bereaved or seriously injured individuals involved in road and rail accidents. We also extend ambulance services, financial assistance, and legal aid to the families of those who have lost their lives in accidents.
Life Saving Organization has established a panel of highly experienced lawyers with extensive practice across courts in every state of India. Through this, we provide legal aid to those injured in road and rail accidents as well as to the families of those who have lost their lives.
The emergency medical assistance initiative by Life Saving Organization has impacted over sixty thousand lives. An NGO's efforts are more likely to succeed and meet its goals when it receives active support from donors and volunteers. We urge everyone to contribute to a cause close to their hearts. Let us continue to help accident victims rebuild a happy life in their homes.
